This independent study brought together the mediums I'd grown into over my first seven semesters at York College: letterpress, illustration, and darkroom photography, paired with cyanotype, a photographic printing process new to my practice.
Cyanotype dates back to 1842, originally developed to reproduce mathematical tables and technical drawings, thus, the origin of the term blueprint. I wanted to take that process out of its technical origins and put it toward a creative end, built around letting different mediums collaborate rather than operate in isolation.
Cyanotype became the study's foundation: an unfamiliar process to build around, set against four semesters of illustration training and a background in letterpress. Working the two together, an established skill against new process, to push the work into territory neither medium could reach on its own.
